Breaking News: Swatch Group’s “Time to Move” Cancelled Due To Coronavirus

The Swatch Group has cancelled its upcoming “Time to Move” event that would have taken place from March 4th-6th. This would have been the second year for the watch fair which was started by the Swatch Group after their decision to pull out of Baselworld following Baselworld 2018.

The Swatch Group included the following in their press release:

“Considering the uncertainty related to the 2019-nCoV Coronavirus outbreak, and in order to guarantee the welfare of our guests, partners, and colleagues, Swatch Group has decided not to hold the Time to Move event, which should have taken place in Zurich from March 4-6, 2020.

The Swatch Group Prestige brands will introduce their new products to the markets at a later stage during regional events, in order to prevent their partners from traveling internationally in an insecure climate.”

Baselworld, which normally would have taken place in late March, has combined with SIHH (now called “Watches and Wonders”) to form a continuous watch fair that begins in late April with the new iteration of SIHH and continues into Baselworld 2020. With such a large international presence at this type of event, we’ll need to keep a close eye on things to see if the joint venture doesn’t follow Swatch Group’s example and cancel or reschedule for later this year.

Update on February 27th, 2020: Watches and Wonders has issued a press release announcing the cancellation of this year’s show. No word on Baselworld yet.
