In 2019, Grand Seiko added a beautiful watch to their Heritage Collection when they released the SBGH269. Grand Seiko is known for their highly technical mechanics and finishings, and they don’t let us down with this release.
Designed to be evocative of Fall in Japan, as well as the lacquered floors of traditional Japanese architecture, Grand Seiko hits the mark with this dial. The graduated red dial shows different variations of red that leaves exhibit as the season progresses. For the case, Seiko employs multi-surface Zaratsu polishing to achieve a perfect mirror finish on the lugs where they can then use a hairline finish to create perfect triangles. It can take years for a Seiko craftsman to perfect the Zaratsu polishing technique before being allowed to employ it when finishing a watch, which makes this watch even more special.
The watch features a special edition mechanical high-beat 36000 Caliber 9S85 which can be viewed through the sapphire case back. The titanium rotor is anodised to a green colour to represent leaves just prior to changing colour, so with a flip of the case, Japan’s seasonal change is effectively represented. The movement allows for hacking seconds which helps when setting the watch to a reference time. The watch features a screw-down crown and is waterproof to about 100m
The Grand Seiko SBGH269 is limited to 900 pieces and is priced at 6,400 USD.
